In 1998 Jennifer W. was in an unplanned pregnancy. She was active in her church and felt that she had really disappointed her parents and gone against her family values.

Attleboro Walk for Life a Great Success

Thank you to all the walkers who participated in the Walk for Life in Attleboro on May 3rd. The rain held off and we had an outstanding turnout of 105 sponsored walkers from 15 different churches! With everyone working together, we raised $15,000 in money pledged and received. This is a blessing to A Woman’s Concern and families in the Attleboro area. We can use this money to place AWC advertisements in the yellow pages so that women and couples know about our free services!

Healthy Futures Moving Onward!

As you may have heard, Governor Patrick recently vetoed the Massachusetts budget line item for federally-funded middle school abstinence education. A Woman’s Concern’s Healthy Futures program was the state’s contractor for that project, so this means that our $500,000 grant from the Department of Public Health has been cut. This difficult loss will result in about 7000 students each year not hearing about abstinence as a realistic option.

We have trimmed the remaining Healthy Futures budget as much as possible to maximize the number of youth we can serve, and are looking for additional sources of funding to supplement our existing funds. One area of significant cost to us is rent for office space.

Rather than further reducing our number of services or staff, we are looking to reduce our rental costs in the next few months by finding a new office location in Dorchester or Roxbury at no cost or reduced rent. Would you be able to help serve youth in Eastern Massachusetts by helping us through providing space for our office?

If you have any suggestions or questions please call me at 617-929-1037 extension 102.

Rebecca Ray, Program Director, Healthy Futures

A Word from our President, Dr. Mark Conrad

Hello to all our partners in this Great Work. One great question we face at A Woman’s Concern everyday is “what does it mean to empower women?” Take for example a woman facing an unplanned pregnancy. What will give her the power and authority she needs to independently decide what is happening to her and within her? Although too often the answer is avoided, skewed and even politicized, the answer is actually simple – Information…all information!

Everyday in our centers all along eastern Massachusetts from Beverly on the North Shore down through Revere and Boston to Fall River on the South Coast and onto Cape Cod in Hyannis, we meet many women and couples who are simply looking for information. We provide free pregnancy tests, ultrasound and counseling about everything relevant to our clients’ needs. We will show and explain everything about the life growing inside a woman and what people like you are willing to do to help her in that great moment of need. Now that’s empowerment!

Feel free to come on out to one of our local centers and spend a moment or two meeting with our staff and volunteers and get to know how great our work really is!

Thanks to all our partners for your great commitment to this Great Work. Your prayers have and continue to strengthen our ability to meet a woman in her greatest time of need. Keep praying!
